Itinerary
An excellent experience for those who want to make the most of their day and go beyond the National Park excursion, exploring Glaciar Martial and its beautiful landscapes, and even taking an alpine skiing or snowboarding lesson that will result in incredible photos, along with a delicious included lunch and a warm welcome with hot chocolate at Glaciar Martial. Sounds like a lot? We’ve created this excursion for the most discerning travelers who want to make the most of their time!
We’ll pick up the adventurers from their accommodations and head towards Tierra del Fuego National Park, the southernmost park in the world and the only one in Argentina that combines mountains, lakes, and sea, offering stunning scenery with rich flora and fauna, all against a backdrop of snow, mountains, lakes, and sea that will take your breath away.
An experienced guide will accompany the entire tour, sharing details and stories about the places visited. Our first stop is just before the park entrance, at the End of the World Train Station, the southernmost train station on the planet. At this point, those interested in taking the optional train ride can purchase tickets in advance to avoid disappointment upon arrival and finding the train fully booked, as tickets are limited.
Onboard the train, besides enjoying the scenery, you’ll learn about the history of this railway that transported prisoners from Ushuaia’s prison to the slopes of Mount Susana nearly 100 years ago. Using headphones, you’ll hear fascinating stories about Ushuaia, the train, and more, available in multiple languages including Portuguese. Midway, there’s a stop at Macarena Station where you can disembark, climb a staircase, and enjoy the view from above, which is truly special and well worth it! The train ride lasts approximately 1 hour and ends at a station inside the national park, where our transportation with the guide will be waiting to continue the tour in the national park.
Those who choose not to take the train ride won’t miss out on this hour; they can enjoy this time to explore the charming station with its open workshop, cafeteria, and a shop with many souvenirs, while also beginning to hear the stories told by our guide.
We then head to Bahía Lapataia, where we can see a stretch of the Beagle Channel with beautiful landscapes, as well as beautiful Patagonian forests. Here, we find the end of Route 3, the road that reaches the southernmost point on the planet. Therefore, it’s a great place to be considered ‘The End of the World’! At this ‘end of the world,’ there’s a famous sign for a photo opportunity and a beautiful walk to enjoy the incredibly lush nature of the area. It’s so beautiful that the indigenous ancestors, the ‘LOS YAMANAS,’ chose this place for their homes, and there are records and excavations that show this. It’s very interesting to hear the guide’s stories.
Next, we head to Lake Roca, already at the border with Chile. Here, we’ll take a short hike to learn more about the fauna and flora of Tierra del Fuego. At this lake, we’ll have a beautiful view of the lake, snow-capped mountains in the background, and lovely vegetation with beautiful trees on the sides, truly stunning!
Before returning, we’ll also visit the Alakush Visitors Center, where the museum of the island’s ancient indigenous people, the Yámanas, is located. From this point, we can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Cerro Condor and Lapataia River. Those who wish can enjoy a delicious hot chocolate, have a snack, or enjoy a delicious pie (items not included in the tour).
Having gained a good insight into Tierra del Fuego National Park, we head towards the city of Ushuaia, where we’ll have lunch at a great restaurant, with a choice of menus including a beverage (beer, water, flavored water, or soda) and finishing with coffee.
After lunch, we head to the Winter Center of the famous Glaciar Martial. At this point, most of those on the tour take the opportunity to take an alpine skiing or snowboarding lesson for beginners.
It’s a unique experience and truly worth it; after all, coming to Ushuaia and not having this experience isn’t the same. Imagine yourself dressed as a skier, having a one-hour lesson with a professional ski or snowboard instructor, having a blast and taking wonderful photos? Any falls are just part of the fun, and falling in the soft snow is actually quite enjoyable, especially if you capture it on film to remember forever.
Those who aren’t interested in the skiing or snowboarding lesson can relax and enjoy the wonderful view of the Beagle Channel and the city, visit the famous and cozy Casa de Té (Tea House) and the mountain refuge, which will welcome everyone with a delicious hot chocolate upon arrival. You can also take a short walk and even attempt to climb the Glaciar Martial trail; just be sure not to get lost and end up staying there overnight, as the cold is quite intense for spending a night on the glacier!
One thing is for sure, being able to visit the southernmost park in the world, explore the base of Glaciar Martial, and even have an alpine skiing or snowboarding lesson is making the most of your time with unforgettable activities for those visiting Ushuaia in winter. So, take advantage and secure your spot on this full day of activities; spaces are limited. Treat yourself to this gift and have a beautiful and unforgettable day on the Mega Tour.
At the end, in the late afternoon, we’ll return to the city and drop off each of our clients at their respective accommodations, knowing that we’ve been part of one of the most ‘surreal’ days of their lives.
