Itinerary
A spectacular way to explore the Patagonian steppes around El Calafate is by trekking through Cerro Frias.
We walk through the beautiful viewpoints of the region, with the opportunity to see guanacos, hares, condors, and foxes. Truly enchanting!
We depart from the hotel in El Calafate heading to the east side of the city, starting our journey towards Cerro Frias.
We ascend the Cerro in a 4×4 vehicle, witnessing the famous Lake Argentino along the way, the largest and southernmost Patagonian lake with a stunning blue color.
We also see the Avellaneda Peninsula. Upon reaching the summit at 1,030m altitude, we enjoy the wonderful view of FitzRoy, located in El Chaltén, and also the Torres del Paine, located in Chile. A truly breathtaking sight!
With this wide view of the region along the way, the guide takes the opportunity to give us an introduction to the local geography, allowing us to see the boundaries of the National Park and historical points in the region.
We then stop at the famous Campo Restaurant, which offers a beautiful view of the Centinela Valley, and begin to prepare for our true adventure: the trekking!
We will trek through the south face of Cerro Frias, with ups and downs through the Patagonian steppe combined with lenga forest sections. A truly unique and unparalleled sight!
In addition to the photogenic landscape, during the trek, we may spot various animals common in Patagonia such as guanacos, foxes, condors, and hares.
We will make some small stops along the way to enjoy the scenery, have some water, and take a short break.
Arriving at the base of Cerro, we are very excited about the adventure and have wonderful memories.
We return to the hotel in a van, enjoying another stretch of the landscape and concluding our tour on a high note.
