A spectacular way to explore the Patagonian steppe around El Calafate is by horseback riding on Cerro Frias.
We will pass by the most beautiful viewpoints in the region on a tranquil and appreciative ride, where we may spot guanacos, hares, condors, and, with luck, foxes.
An unforgettable journey!
We depart from the hotel in El Calafate heading east, starting our journey on Cerro Frias.
We ascend Cerro Frias in a 4×4 vehicle, enjoying views of the famous Lago Argentino, the largest and southernmost Patagonian lake with a stunning blue color.
We also see the Avellaneda Peninsula. Upon reaching the summit at 1,030m altitude, we enjoy the marvelous view of FitzRoy, located in El Chalten, and also the Torres del Paine, located in Chile. A truly breathtaking sight!
With this extensive view of the region along the way, the guide takes the opportunity to give us an introduction to the local geography, allowing us to see the boundaries of the National Park and historical points of interest in the region.
We then stop at the famous Campo Restaurant, which offers a beautiful view of Vale do Centinela, the waters of Braço Rico, and Torres del Paine (Chile). We begin to prepare for our true adventure: the horseback ride!
The stables are just a few meters from the restaurant. We fetch our horses and start our circuit.
We ride for about 1.5 hours on the south side of Cerro Frias, reaching beautiful viewpoints at 600m altitude. We can see many of the region’s most famous landmarks from various angles. Truly stunning!
Along the way, we spot wild and endemic animals of the region such as guanacos, hares, and condors. With luck, we may also see foxes.
We conclude our circular circuit returning to the stables.
We return to the hotel enjoying the beautiful view of the region.
